Role: As an AIT (assembly, integration and test) Engineer at D-Orbit, you will be part of the team that transforms engineering concepts into operational space systems. You will contribute to the Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Testing (MAIT) activities of satellites, subsystems, and Ground Support Equipment (GSE), ensuring that every configuration is verified, traceable, and compliant with flight quality and safety standards. Depending on program size and complexity, the AIT Engineer can also assume responsibilities typically assigned to the AIT Manager, including planning, coordination, and configuration management. This position requires a multidisciplinary approach, combining mechanical, electrical, and functional integration expertise, and close collaboration with system engineering, product assurance, and manufacturing teams.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Analyse documentation describing the architecture of the item subject of AIT activities, including requirements specifications, assembly drawings (mechanical and electrical), user manuals
    • Perform mechanical, electrical, and functional assembly activities according to approved AIT procedures and plans.
    • Support the definition and implementation of the MAIT flow for subsystems, platforms, payloads, and GSE up to launch.
    • Collaborate in the preparation, use, and maintenance of GSE (FGSE, MGSE, EGSE), ensuring availability, qualification, and correct configuration.
    • Draft, update, and manage technical documentation in PLM (process plans, MBOM) and ALM (task sheets, logbooks, test reports, test procedures), including, if necessary, test scripts for automatic test routines.
    • Manages non-conformances (NC) independently, assessing whether it is necessary to involve specialists from other functions.
    • Support preparation and execution of electrical, environmental, and functional tests at satellite and subsystem level.
    • Work closely with AIV, System Engineering, and Product Assurance to maintain technical alignment.
    • Contribute to process improvement and standardization of AIT activities.
    • Collect and upload test data into ALM systems, ensuring traceability of results.

Requirements: Degree in Aerospace, Electronics, Mechanics, or equivalent. Experience in integration and testing activities, ideally in space or aerospace environments. Basic knowledge of AIT processes and GSE operation. Practical attitude, operational problem-solving, and attention to detail. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and complex technical environments. Deep knowledge of AI tools.

Hiring Process: Here’s how our hiring process works—simple and straightforward:

  • Application review: We go through all applications, but we'll only reach out to candidates who closely match what we're looking for. If you don’t hear from us, it means we’re not moving forward with your application at this time, but we may consider your profile for more aligned opening in the future!
  • First chat: Selected candidates will have an informal meeting with us so we can get to know each other and talk through mutual expectations and goals.
  • Technical interviews: Next, you’ll have one or two technical interviews, focused on your skills and how you approach challenges relevant to the role.
  • Offer: If all goes well, we’ll send you an offer! Sometimes this stage can take a bit of time, as we like to carefully consider each candidate and make sure the fit with the team is just right.

Note: This is NOT a full remote job for Extra-EU applicants; visa to work in Italy is required. Some activities must be carried out in our facilities, while many others can be performed remotely. We value diversity and inclusivity and strive to create an environment where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work.
