Spark Cleantech is an industrial scale-up that designs hydrogen production units to decarbonize industry. Our innovative patented methane plasmalysis technology simultaneously produces low-carbon hydrogen and high-quality carbon black, all with zero CO₂ emissions and low electricity consumption.

Following the successful deployment of our first industrial pilot at a customer site in 2024 and a major funding round in 2025, we are now building our first industrial-scale standard product.

Spark is made up of:

  • An R&D laboratory and a team of plasma engineers and researchers developing our technology.
  • A demonstration facility and an operations team tackling industrial scale-up challenges.
  • A Finance / Business Development team preparing for commercial deployment.

To continue developing this ambitious project, we are looking for a Carbon Materials Engineering Intern who shares our vision of contributing to a more sustainable world, as well as our core values: positivity, passion, and excellence.

Your Mission

Your mission will be to help position the different grades of carbon black produced by Spark by comparing them with conventional fossil-derived carbon black through in-depth characterization and by proposing optimization opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform carbon characterization and analysis in Spark's internal laboratory in accordance with ASTM and ISO standards.
  • Identify and implement new analytical methods based on the desired material characteristics.
  • Participate in application testing of Spark-produced carbon black within formulations developed by partner customers.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to monitor, communicate, and explain analysis results to customers and partners.
  • Contribute to the management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Spark's internal laboratory methodologies.

Profile

You are:

  • A Master's (M2) student, second-year engineering student, gap-year student, or final-year engineering student with a background in materials engineering, nanomaterials, or polymer science.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and methodical, with the ability to take responsibility for laboratory activities.
  • Curious about the industrial applications of carbon materials.
  • Interested in plasma-based technologies and the relationship between processing conditions, material structure, and carbon black properties.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently.
  • A strong team player with excellent communication and listening skills.

Above all, you're someone who shares our mission of contributing to the decarbonization of industry.

Does this sound like you? Apply as soon as possible! Be sure to explicitly highlight any projects you've completed that are relevant to this internship in your CV. We encourage you to clearly describe any previous work or projects related to this role.
