Hardware Engineer

Senior Reliability Engineer

RobCo • Munich

Role

Senior Reliability Engineer (m/f/d) at RobCo is the technical authority ensuring system-level robustness and long-term endurance across modular robotic platforms. You will work across hardware design, physical testing, and field operations to translate real-world data into actionable design changes and reliability standards.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the multi-year reliability and endurance test roadmap as the technical authority for the physical test team.
  • Close the loop with field and service data to optimize maintenance intervals, spare-part strategies, and design changes.
  • Own system-level reliability across core products and module families; build Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs) to set targets at module, arm, and system levels.
  • Set reliability requirements early and enforce them during design reviews.
  • Drive failure mode identification via DFMEA and FMEDA sessions; lead root-cause analyses for real-world failures.
  • Perform deep statistical analyses (MTBF/MTTF, L10/B10 life) for components like bearings, gears, and brakes; validate assumptions.
  • Assess data integrity and distinguish decision-grade data from placeholders.

Requirements

  • Vocational training or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or related experience.
  • Several years of reliability engineering experience on complex electro/mechanical products.
  • Strong ownership mindset, pragmatic work style, and analytical rigor.
  • Very good English; German is a plus.
  • Practical expertise in RBD modeling, MTBF/MTTF prediction, L10/B10 life calculation, and FMEA/FMEDA.

Nice to have

  • Background in robotics, industrial automation, automotive, aerospace, or medical devices.
  • Knowledge of servo drivetrains and their failure modes.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 26262).
  • Experience with ReliaSoft, Isograph, Windchill QMS, SISTEMA, Minitab, Python, or R; Weibull analysis experience.
  • Experience with modular or configurable product families and reliability calculations per configuration.
